Jessica 6 Fun Girl

Bassist Andrew Raposo, Keyboardist Morgan Wiley and Singer/Songwriter Nomi Ruiz met while on the Hercules and Love Affair tour in 2008.  They’ve since pooled their talent to form Jessica 6, resulting in a sound self- described as “dark, sexy and soulful.”

I  first discovered the haunting yet intoxicating voice of Miss Nomi Ruiz during soundcheck, prior to her performance at the Highline Ballroom in NYC (which is quickly becoming one of my favorite performance spaces in NY by the way.) The club was in between shows, and therefore in complete disarray.  I was in the middle of gathering my belongings and saying my goodbyes when suddenly I was rendered speechless as the record stopped in my head and all I heard was this ridiculously rich, raspy and slightly erotic voice filling the entire room.  I quickly and rather rudely dismissed whomever I was speaking to and directed all my attention center stage, where I saw a waif-like, dark haired figure (with a really nice rack) blessing the mic. I needed to know who this voice belonged to right away, as I desperately wanted to book her for an artist profile on the TV show I was producing at the time.  As fate would have it, I discovered Nomi and I had a mutual friend in the biz, and the rest is history.

Quickly thereafter, I booked Nomi and Jessica 6 for my TV show and below is a little footage compilation I pieced together from the various shoots I conducted with the uber talented threesome, cut to the soundtrack of their first single “Fun Girl.”
