International pop stars Lady Gaga and Beyonce join forces yet again in Gaga’s latest media blitz otherwise known as her 9 minute music video “Telephone”. This marks the second time the two have connected over a phone.

In 1975, groundbreaking drummer Sandy West and guitarist Joan Jett formed The Runaways, an all girl band rounded out by fellow teen rockers, Lita Ford, Jackie Fox and Cherie Currie. Although short lived, The Runaways go down in history as the first all female rock band to rock the male dominated arena alongside the likes of The Ramones and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Signed to Mercury Records, the girls were barely 16 when they recorded their first album.

A biopic of The Runaways by director Floria Sigismondi is expected to hit theaters soon. Floria, who’s best known for her provocative photos and music videos also penned the screenplay for the film.

Mark Twain said it first “Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society.” This is especially true when it comes to Hollywood! Bottom line is the key to any successful movie is your ability to to sell the story. And you can’t properly sell a story without the proper attire. Evidently, when it comes to picture perfect Costume Design, Women reign supreme.

The 2010 Academy Award for Best Costume Design goes to Sandy Powell for The Young Victoria.

In Sandy Powell’s acceptance speech, the two time Oscar winner rather candidly dedicates this year’s trophy to all those “low budget” designers (not listed here) who work equally as hard and get little or no recognition.

Barbara Streisand says it best as she presents the Oscar for Directing to The Hurt Locker’s Kathryn Bigelow. “Well the time has come…” finally, after 82 years, a Woman claims Hollywood’s top prize and then some. Bigelow, who also takes home the Oscar for Best Motion Picture, is sincerely surprised from the moment she’s announced to the end of her speech. Take a look at she gracefully fights to maintain her composure.

Top Grossing Females

The Huffington Post posted an interesting article by Media Professor Dr. Stacy Smith entitled Female Directors, Writers, and Producers in Film Matter which briefly details some of what she learned while studying the roles women played, both on and off screen in 2007’s top grossing films. Although the study confirms women are still grossly underrepresented in every area of the industry, Dr. Smith does unearth some positive facts worth celebrating, like…

“… as the percentage of females involved in a project increases the size of the budget decreases.”

“And, exploring the IMDbPro website for the 10 most profitable films from 2007, nine featured a female on the writing or producing team.”

“Further, a full 78% of the top-grossing films in 2007 employed at least one female producer”.

Vogue Gets Even Thicker

Pick up an issue of Vogue magazine and you might notice its usually thicker than your average glossy; but now Vogue Italia is taking thick to a whole new level…at least via the web. Vogue Italia on-line has just launched Vogue Curvy, featuring an interview with curvaceous beauty, Crystal Renn. In her interview, Crystal, who suffered an eating disorder early in her career, says the “career of a size 12 model is much longer than it is for someone who is a size 0″. Makes sense as I’m not sure how long any woman can healthily maintain a size 0 frame. Perhaps if more magazines like Vogue Italia start actually featuring “plus size” models in major mainstream fashion spreads, the size 0 standard will someday become completely extinct. Until then, Bravo Vogue Italia.

NBC may have unfortunately given Coco the boot, but Ellen DeGeneres can look forward to three more years of talk with the network. In addition to renewing her vows with the peacock, this week also saw the debut of Ellen as new judge on Fox favorite, American Idol. No word yet on whether Ellen will officially take the place of “Idol” star, Sir Simon Cowell, when he moves on to The X Factor next season. Last but certainly not least, here’s the network star in action as she interviews her wife, Portia de Rossi, for The Ellen DeGeneres Show, of course.

This morning, Thursday 2.11.10, four time British Fashion Designer of the Year, Alexander McQueen, was found dead in his London flat. He was just 40 years old. Throughout his 20 year career, McQueen created some of the boldest fashion statements in history via some of the most trendsetting women on the planet. In short, whether on the catwalk, the red carpet, center stage or music video, if she’s rocking an Alexander McQueen, she’s stealing the show.
